Kentay is a person in long term recovery. He joined the team at the Salt Lake USARA Recovery Community Center in November 2024 after gaining his CPSS. He loves using his lived experience to share his story and connect with others who are themselves in long term recovery and is currently living his dream of working for a non-profit organization.

Kentay has faced so many challenges to maintain sobriety. It has been a fight to not only stay sober but to reconnect. The biggest challenge that he has found is not staying sober, but being present and having an imagination towards what life worth living looks like. He has faced some harsh realities such as homelessness, mental health challenges, reintegration and skills deficits progression.

He lives his life by just a few guidelines that help him to continue to keep going, to keep challenging himself daily. Kentay believes in progress not perfection, acceptance isn’t agreement, and being the change that he would like to see in the world.

Kentay believes that at times we all go astray from what we feel is our purpose in life. We can get trapped and stuck in places that don’t bring out the best qualities in us. We can get over run by life. He says this has been true of his life more than once. As an advocate, Kentay holds space for those who feel like they are lost and have little hope. He holds space for those lives that have been broken and damaged by people, places and things.
